Unsure of what career path to choose in life at 20 years old…like many have done before him, he picked up a bottle opener, a bartender's guide, a servers tray and served tables. Little did he know, that would be the start of a 23-year career in food service. Len spent 10 years leading a restaurant and banquet facility in Grand Rapids. 10 of the best years of his life were spent working with a team of devoted individuals in an effort to turn a profit. Menu development, hiring, staffing, training, scheduling, operations and managing profit/loss were key responsibilities. In 2006, Len made the decision to learn a different “side” of the business…distribution and sales with Sysco Grand Rapids. There he climbed the ranks from a marketing associate, District Sales Manager and Regional Sales Manager. He has spent the last 2 years as a business resource consultant. He takes great pride in connecting resources with independent operators helping to maximize their profits and think about business differently. Shared business goals + Personal Relationship are a great recipe for building trust and long-lasting partnerships.
Upon receiving his Hospitality Business Degree from Michigan State University, he moved to Chicago to further his education with hands on experience. He joined forces with Lettuce Entertain You for a number of years before making the transition to the sales side of the industry. He joined a large Midwest seafood purveyor as a sales associate, and then progressed into a seafood procurement role. At that time, he was offered a role as Seafood Specialist with the Sysco Chicago where he was able to combine his experiences to help customers profitably grow their seafood sales. Three years ago he made the move to Sysco Grand Rapids where he continues to use his dock-to-plate knowledge to help bring more sustainable offerings to our customers.
